Submission

& Respect

Ministry team members are encouraged to "submit to one another out of reverence for Christ," (Eph. 5:21 NIV), and are expected to respect fellow team members and ministry leaders ("respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you" 1 Thess. 5:12; see also v.13).

Peace-Making

In times of conflict, ministry team members are expected to be peace-makers for situations they are directly involved in (this may involve apologizing, compromising on negotiable issues, and making amends). "If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all" (Rom. 12:18). Additionally, team members may be needed to help mediate conflicts between other team members: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matt 5:9).

Commitment

Ministry team members are expected to exhibit a high level of commitment, which includes "count[ing] the cost" (Luke 14:28) of this ministry ahead of time, and persevering through times of spiritual warfare (even when tempted to give up). Jesus talked about the importance of being committed to following Him:"No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God" (Luke 9:62). Likewise, we should all be committed to the ministry God has called us to, for however long God has called us to it (no matter how difficult it becomes).

Reliability

Ministry team members are strongly advised to keep their word, and be as reliable as possible in scheduling and other ministry tasks. We should not "make [our] plans in a worldly manner so that in the same breath [we] say both 'Yes, yes' and 'No, no'" (2 Cor. 1:17). At the same time, there can be a valid reason to modify plans, if it would benefit the people involved: "it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth" (2 Cor. 1:23).

Communication

Ministry team members are expected to be promptly responsive when ministry leaders and other team members communicate with them, because this is essential for relationship and a functional ministry.

Responsibility

Ministry team members are expected to take responsibility for their actions, which may involve acknowledging mistakes to other team members, apologizing, and asking for forgiveness.
